Due to the recession and shortage of job opportunities, many Nigerians today seem to be looking for opportunities to start their own companies. While there is no shortage of business start up ideas, one popular business to start is a commercial or residential cleaning business. These companies can be started relatively quickly and without a lot of start-up capital required.
For those who are considering a cleaning services business, there are several different options. One way is to purchase a cleaning company franchise. With this option, a great deal of training and support is provided, along with a checklist for starting a business in the particular manner in which the franchise operates.
The other way to begin a cleaning business is to start a company from scratch in which case you register a business name. Although this may require a great deal of work up front, it also allows for more control of the business, along with a greater share of the profits once the company actually gets up and running.
Either option has its advantages and its drawbacks, depending upon personal preference of the individual.
And where would a cleaning company be without their cleaning products? If you’re a domestic or commercial cleaner first you need to determine:
Some clients will prefer to provide their own cleaning chemicals if they have particular preferences or if they’re allergic to certain ingredients. Always find out in advance of the job whether this is the case. It’s a good idea to have a supply of basics to hand regardless though just in case what you’re using runs out or if there’s been an oversight and the client isn’t actually supplying their own.
One thing to keep in mind is that you really don’t want to purchase any supplies until you land an account. If you think about it, it makes sense. Why spend a dime BEFORE you even land an account? Generally, any money spent in the beginning of your cleaning business should be focused only on landing accounts.
Good luck
